Canning!

That's salsa, tomato soup, and ketchup from left to right, people, and there's more where that came from...

Thanks to an abundance of tomatoes and inheriting a gigantic stash of my Mom's old canning jars (I think the metal-handled jars may be older than I am...) we have lots of lycopene-y goodness to get us through the winter.

Just in time for me to catch a cold... blechh.

Have you ever made your own ketchup?

It takes a reeeaaalllyyy long time, but dang, it tastes soooo good.

Anybody going to the fair this weekend?

(I can't wait.)

XO,

Rhea

First things first: Where did you find the rubber rings for the wire-bail jars?? I have a ton of them—some from my parents and some I scored FREE at the end of a yard sale last summer!—and I use them for dry food storage because I haven't been able to find rings that fit them. I'd love to use them for actual canning…

We're going to the fair on Saturday on our way to visit my family; cannot wait. I think we might stop into the shop on our way back, too, depending on how well (or not) the children are doing on the drive… xo

That's so funny you brought that up, Meghann! My Grandmother has all shapes and sizes of the wire-handle jars and she said we are welcome to them but she has NO idea where to find the rubbers anymore. Ollie found them on Amazon: I can't remember the name of the seller, but they have them in all shapes and sizes, brand spanking new. I bet if you did a quick search you'd be able to find them.

Maybe I'll bump into you at the fair: we're going on Saturday, too!
