I am off for the next two days on a last minute Mystery Trip...

Craft Swap Reminder

Now that the Clearance Sale is in full swing, I feel it is my duty to remind you all that the Craft Swap is Friday, August 20th at 6:00 pm sharp... also known as one week from tomorrow!
If you haven't signed up yet there is still time to do so, and a week is puh-lenty of time to whip something up for the Big Swap.
If you've never been to the Craft Swap, what are you waiting for...?!?
We want to see you there and steal your stuff!!!
If you have any questions about the Craft Swap, if you want to know how it works or you want to sign up (because all participants MUST sign up ahead of time), you can call me at the shop (207 563 5002), or you can e-mail me (rhea@alewivesfabrics.com).
XO,
Rhea
It's Here!

Clearance sale starts today and runs through Sunday during our regular business hours...
My business associate and I hauled a couple hundred bolts into the classroom last night and for the next three days these goodies will be just $5 a yard (fabrics must be bought in half yard increments) and there are lots of patterns and kits and books on sale, too!
It would be really Smurfy if we saw you there!

Rhea

Clearance Sale starts this Thursday!

It is that time of year again for all of our brick-and-mortar customers...
Our Midsummer's Clearance Sale starts this Thursday at 10:00 am.
Lots and lots of our fabrics will be on sale at just $5 a yard.
There will also be books, patterns and kits available at quite the discount.
(Sorry, internet customers... I won't be able to include you in the sale this time around, because all of the fabrics that will be on sale are not even up on our site, but you will have your moment in the sun soon, I promise!)
XO,
Rhea
PS... that photo above is a picture of my little sister Johanna at Pemaquid Point from a shoot we did earlier this summer for the new Quilt Shops of Maine brochures. The quilt is by one of my students, Kim Thompson, and the pattern is called "Lucky Stars" by Terry Atkinson. Isn't that quite the composition???

Wedding Watch: Invitations Done!

I finally, finally, finally got my invitations out the other day...
I am such a nerd that I sent one to Oliver and myself because I wanted to know what it would feel like for all of the other guests who will be getting one in the mail.
Being a fabric store kind of gal, I really wanted to incorporate fabric into the wedding as much as possible, so I "borrowed" a favorite image from Laura Stoddart (for personal use only, Laura... please don't sue me... I'm your biggest fan!!!) and added some text in Illustrator, then printed the finished file onto muslin sheets.
Next I zig-zagged the muslin to a card stock backing and then did a little more zig-zagging at the bottom to really show off the variegated thread I was using.
I left the edges with long threads hanging out and I purposefully didn't make the zig-zagging too "perfect."
Hopefully this will let my guests know that they are in for a very laid-back, casual-type wedding.
The ceremony and reception are being held at the Jordan Pond House in Acadia National Park.
I figure now that President Obama has been there they are probably ready for Ollie and me.
In other wedding-y news, Jessica is getting married today.
Remember when she got engaged???
(I do.)
I must say she got some guh-LOR-ious weather for her big day.
I am going to wear my Museum Tunic to the ceremony this afternoon... yay!!!
Congratulations, Jessica and Jon...
I am very happy for you both and hope I get a similarly glorious day when it is my turn!

Rhea

Requiem for a fat quarter set...
Sad but true...
You are all gone...
You were nice while you lasted Milk & Honey fat quarter set and I will miss you very much...
But now you have moved on to that great sewing studio in the sky...
And Arizona, and New York City, and Quebec, and Kentucky, and all those other places we sent you...

We will have to see what I can come up with next to top you...
Farewell, Milk and Honey...
I will never forget you!

Back from the show
Another year, another quilt show done.
We are back and I am Ex. Haus. Ted.
Lots of trips back and forth to Augusta.
Lots of lugging things around.
Lots of schmoozing.
Lots of selling.
Lots of meeting up with people I only see once a year.
(You know who you are!!!)
And for all my complaining and exhaustedness, I have to admit that I kind of enjoy doing it.
But Mom and I are by no means what you would call "show people."
The booth looked like this:
There you can see my La La Log Cabin quilt in the background.
Yes,... I finished (with a LOT of help) my La La Log Cabin.
The free patterns are finished as well.
Those of you who placed orders over the weekend (and from now on) will have a free La La Log Cabin "pattern-ish type thing" included as a free gift with your order.
Here's a close-up of the quilt where you can see Barbara's lovely machine-quilting:
So, now that I have shown you what the booth looked like...
Here is what the shop looks like today:
I don't know what it is about a messy shop that makes people want to visit us but I am going to remember that this is a good trick on slow days.
If you are one of the people who visited us over the weekend or today I am so, so sorry.
And now I believe you are all caught up with the Quilt Show.
In other news I find the new Iphone commercials really, really annoying.
Also I am the proud owner of a brand new really kick-ass eyelash curler and mascara.
I have the next two days off (thank goodness) and will probably spend them chillin' like a villain.
See you again soon!
XO,
Rhea
